The captain speaks |
|
Last night I was clearing an old box in the attic out to see what was in it, and I stumbled across a programme Bohs v Cork from April 1991. I had a quick flick through it and came across this small article entitled "The Captain Speaks ". In the article Paul Whelan says on behalf of himself and the players we want to place on record our apologies for not applauding the fans at the end of the match to those that travelled to Athlone last weekend for the FAI cup match etc etc. Im pretty sure I was at that game , think we lost 2-0 and there was some scuffles with rovers fans in Kinnegad on the way home but I was really surprised to see this article. Remember this was in the pre internet days etc so somehow the squad felt the fans were rightly peeved about this non gesture. Makes you think with what has gone on recently.

Interesting point roddy bohs, and I'm not for 1 second accusing you of this, but let's not kid ourselves that the Bohs teams during the 1990's didn't house some of the biggest Wankers in the history of sport. The likes of Tommy Byrne, Derek Swan, Alan Byrne, Pat Kelch (that one is personal cos I met him when I was on my way to a booze cruise to Hollyhead and he was working for B&I. He was trying to cadge the baording passes off people so he could get cheap smokes and sell them on. I mentioned to him that I was a Bohs fan and he basically told me that anyone who watched that shite was a spa and proceded to be the most ignorant prick I ever had the misfortune to encounter. Hopefully after I ratted to his colleague about the cheap smokes scam, the cunt lost his job --0 ) to name but a couple, were complete tossers who treated the fans with absolute contempt and disdain. If anything, the players nowadays have a bit more decency about them in my opinion.. I know that's not the pont of your post, but I know that there will certainly be some misguided nostalgia for better days, when in reality, they didn't exist.

Well like most on here I would like closure on the TNS fiasco. Its been discussed and disected enough. But if I had of gone to Wales and spent the money getting there, getting soaked ,watched that farce and the potential future of the club in jepordardy, the least I would like to think is a small article from the captain on behalf of the squad making an apology in the programme. Clearly there is a precedent for less. And then we draw a line under it ,and move on to the challenges ahead.

I have to say I agree with Ger Byrne. Derek Swan is/was one of the biggest/smallest cunts
I've ever had the misfortune to talk to. In fact, Paul Whelan was no slouch in cuntishness
now that the subject has come up.

Whelan is a cunt, and just like Alan Byrne and many cunts before them, they jumped off our ship and headed to the pigsty. Swan played for the pigs too but at least he didn't join them from us. I have heard many people say how much of a cunt he was but the one time I met him, he was sitting in the Baggot Inn watching Bohs V Pats on the TV, as was I, and he spoke to me about the game without knowing that I was a Bohs fan. He was up for Bohs and all.
I'm just saying. Doesn't mean he wasn't a cunt but he seemed sound enough to me and he was up for Bohs?

Meh, Swanny was my boyhood hero and nobody is gonna take that away from me. I used to walk past Ascot Dry Cleaners on the way home from primary school on the off chance I'd see him.

Is there any truth to the myth that Swanny or someone in his family was involved with the writing in Fr Ted? Surely that gets him a pass?

Will if he is such a fan, the Rovers cunt could put his hand in his pocket and donate €20 every now and then to help us in our time of plight

Even today when I drive past Ascot cleaners, swan always comes to mind......
I would have thought you were too busy fisting Dermot Keely in those days to bother
with swan.

Yep there was a sparks that worked on set on a lot of films/TV that my mate who was an occasional LoI attendee swore was Swannie but it was never confirmed to me.
Ah god be with the days our players had decent trades, wonder how the NBB would get on with Mick Moody

Speaking of former players, I saw John Ryan at a funeral I was at last night.
Blast from the past indeed.

Bumped into tommy byrne in a pub in glasnevin a few years ago on st stephens day.
He was fucking thrilled that someone recognised him...... Arrogant little
bollocks alright.
Paul Whelan does security at the airport these days, I see him there regularly. I think
he's a youth officer with home farm too. There are a few things I know about that cunt
which unfortunately I can't put down here as I'd only end up in court. A real pity.

Think there were scuffles with Rovers fans in Kinnegad before that cup game in Athlone Rovers were playing away against Sligo that day.
