Has been announced by the club apparently. RTE have it on their site, but nothing on our official site of course....

Bohemians have announced a friendly match with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Dalymount Park on Saturday 17 July.

The English Premier League side will meet Bohemians in the first match of their pre-season programme.

Several Irish players, including Kevin Foley, Andy Keogh and star striker Kevin Doyle currently ply their trade with Wolves, as well as ex-Bohemian Stephen Ward.

McCarthy recalled an 'extremely successful' trip to Dalymount Park three years ago and is looking forward to a return.

'We are always well looked after but more importantly the training and matches offer just what we need at that stage of pre-season,' the former Irish international said.

'The other big advantage is that it's reasonably close to home in the event of us needing to speak to any potential transfer targets and is also fairly accessible for supporters who I know often like to follow the team during pre-season,' McCarthy added.

'We're all looking forward to the trip, which, along with all the other fixtures, should give us a really competitive build-up to the season.'

I went to the official site to see what fixture we had that weekend and surprise surprise, the fixtures are still not updated.

Good work by the club at getting this friendly, but pity that we're afraid to announce any such 'good news'. Born to Moan

MEDIA RELEASE BOHEMIAN FC 24 MAY 2010

Wolves to warm up with Bohemians friendly

Bohemian FC is delighted to announce that Wolverhampton Wanderers will play a friendly at Dalymount Park on Saturday 17th July (kick-off 3pm). The English Premier League side will meet Bohemians in the first match of their pre-season programme.

Mick McCarthy will be managing his team in the top flight of English football for a second consecutive season in 2010-11. He has been manager of Wolves since 2006 and has brought in several Irish players, including Kevin Foley, Andy Keogh and star striker Kevin Doyle, who made the joint-highest number of appearances (34) for the club last season. Ex-Bohemian Stephen Ward has made 90 league starts with the first team since joining in January 2007 though he has had a knee injury this season. Ward will make the trip with the team home to Dublin even if he is not fit to play.

McCarthy recalled the “extremely successful” trip to Dalymount Park three years ago. “We are always well looked after but more importantly the training and matches offer just what we need at that stage of pre-season,” the former Irish international said.

“The other big advantage is that it’s reasonably close to home in the event of us needing to speak to any potential transfer targets and is also fairly accessible for supporters who I know often like to follow the team during pre-season,” McCarthy added. “We’re all looking forward to the trip, which, along with all the other fixtures, should give us a really competitive build-up to the season.”

McCarthy has made it clear he aims to strengthen the Wolves squad for next season, and this meeting with Bohemians may be an opportunity for an early sight of any new talent he has attracted. While Kevin Doyle is the subject of rumours about transfer away from Wolves, at least one other Irish international is being mentioned as likely to join Wolves.

Good stuff. Would you reckon it would sell out?

I think if Kevin Doyle remains at the club it will have a big bearing on the gate, whereas if McCarthy manages to lure Robbie Keane back there the house full signs can go up.

Hmmm... Wouldn't be too confident. Wolves don't have too many household names or much of an Irish support. Hopefully they keep hold of Doyle until then and Stephen Hunt joins too... That might help!

I presume they will also be playing Galway Utd on this tour given the close relationship between Mick McCarthy and Seanie

Wolves defender Stephen Ward has agreed a new deal that is set to keep him at Molineux until 2013.

Ward, 24, who is currently battling back from a knee operation, has made 120 appearances since joining Wolves from Irish club Bohemians in 2007.

"To have signed a new deal at the end of a season when we've stayed in the Premier League is brilliant for me," he told the club's official website.

"I've grown to love the club over the three and a half years I've been here."

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said: "Wardy is one of the players who had to make a big step up when he arrived at the club from Bohemians.

"But he has answered every challenge that has been put in front of him, including reverting to the left-back position and developing his game so much that he looks like he's spent all his career there.

"He did well for us in the Premier League last season, even more so as when he came back from injury he was often having to train and play through a lot of pain but he'll do that for you because of the character he is and the courage he shows out on the pitch.

"Having had his operation this summer, I'm sure he'll be relishing even more the chance to play in the league again without having to suffer any niggling problems and I'm delighted he's now tied to the club for another three years."

Republic of Ireland B defender Ward made 24 club appearances in total this season as Wolves secured a second successive Premier League campaign following their promotion from the Championship in 2008/09.

The club have actually been on to me asking would I head the welcome party when he comes over.

Joking aside, well done to who ever organised this. We might be surprised at how many Irish people might come and see it, particularly (as is already pointed out) if Doyle is playing.
